Southwestern style oozes out of every crack in Table Mountain Inn. The shape, color, and stucco texture of the building itself echoes the famous Table Mountain, which lies in the distance directly opposite this hotel. Inside, the Southwestern theme goes into overkill and feels out of place because Golden isn't in the southwest, Golden was one of the defining towns of the historic Old West.
The lobby itself is very warm and inviting. The floor is a very natural worn terra cotta colored floor, with tiles that may be handmade because *gasp* they aren't perfectly smooth on top. The built in fireplace contained a gently burning with a fire, and nearby a pair of cushy chairs welcomed guests to sit and relax. Beyond the chairs and fireplace was a living room setup with couches, a coffee table, more chairs, and even a telephone desk with free usage of a computer and internet connection. The hotel front reception desk was behind all of this furniture, a bit out of the way for anyone walking in the front door to go to the hotel side of the building.
If you weren't going to the reception desk to stay at the hotel, you would turn to the right after walking in the front door and the restaurant hostess would greet you. The Southwestern décor carries seamlessly into the Table Mountain Restaurant, where different patterned bandanas are given to be used as napkins. I ate here twice and was not impressed by the food on either occasion, despite that the other people in my party liked to frequent this place. They suggested that maybe the items I ordered were not one of their specialties, since it was a dish they were not fond of.
On my first visit in particular I remember eating French toast that was not completely dipped in the egg batter, so parts of the piece of toast was just plain white bread that tasted very bland. The side of sausage links was no help either; they were extremely tasteless and actually made me lose my appetite. To be fair, I wasn't very hungry at the time, yet eating this food made me feel even less hungry, so much so that I let someone else eat my sausage links.
My two visits here were not good experiences, and I actually would not go back if I could help such a situation. The hotel as a whole had a very warm inviting atmosphere, but unless you are waiting for someone in the lobby, there isn't much reason to hang out there, or to eat there for that matter.
