D'Deli is one of the tiniest eateries that I've ever dined in, but the fresh ingredients and friendly service here more than compensate for what it's lacking in square footage. I went to D'Deli on more than one occasion, mainly because I tended to be in town on Sunday afternoons and no other quick stop eatery seemed to be open when I was hungry.
D'Deli has an extensive menu of cold and hot sub sandwiches. The concept here is a lot like any deli: “create your own sandwich.” There are some differences from a place like Subway in that D'Deli has more options for meats and toppings, and perhaps the ingredients are a bit fresher too.
On my first visit I noticed the small ice cream freezer near the door, and later I was told that was Liks' brand of ice cream. Well I had never heard of Liks, but I was told by a friend that it is made in Denver and considered a local delicacy, so if I was ever at D'Deli again I should stop in and try some.
So late one Sunday afternoon I wandered into D'Deli just to taste some Liks ice cream. The sandwich-maker on duty, Dominic, let me sample whatever flavors I wanted, which was a good thing because most of the flavors were unlike any that I have never heard of in ice cream: Jack Daniels Chocolate Chip, Amaretto Coffee, Caramel Cinnamon, and more. I tried a few and one thing they had in common was a smooth creamy texture. I decided that some of the unusual flavors were a bit too much for me, but the vanilla was just perfect for my tastes at the time. I ordered a kiddie cup scoop and sat at a wobbly window table to watch the snow fall on the cars outside.D'Deli.mov
